Assistant Professor Courtney Starrett received a Global Learning Initiative Award to collaborate with RJM in planning an installment at Winthrop University, Rock Hill, South Carolina. We spent several days working with her students in the Jewelry and Metals program, sorting, designing, and demonstrating techniques such as ingot pouring and milling metal. Special attention was spent discussing RJM Design Strategies that place environmental and human health above all other conceptual or aesthetic choices. It was an action-packed, inspiring time and students went on to complete their designs during the course of the semester.

“Many of these pieces were my mother’s.  She died this spring at age 94 and I see some of these pieces as reflecting various styles during her life – from the cocktail parties of the fifties to the more folk pieces of the sixties and seventies.  As she grew older her jewelry became bolder.  I hope to follow her path.  The lonesome onesies are mine, kept for too long in hopes of finding the earring gone walk-about.”
