What is the Rejewelry Competition?
With the Rejewlery Competition, we want to invite newcomers into our RJM community and welcome back past participants to utilize the circular supply chain of materials. During our frequent RJM Installments we collect donations of broken, unwanted, or out-of-date jewelry and with this competition we redistribute it into the hands of makers.
This competition is a creative challenge for those looking to engage in the tangible redistribution of already-mined persistent raw materials full of creative potential!

How it Works
Jewelry makers from around the world are encouraged to apply to the current call for entry.
The juror-selected applicants can then purchase RJM donation materials through a private RJM Shop to create a suite of jewelry that will exhibited.
Materials available in the shop include a sweeping range from fine materials (gold, silver, gemstones) to costume jewelry (plastics, pot metal, wood, rubber, etc.).
The cohort has a specific amount of time to create a collection of work which are then then exhibited and available for purchase in person and in the online RJM Store.
About the RJM Materials
RJM receives about 100 pounds of donated jewelry during each installment. From these donations, 99% is costume, fast-fashion jewelry while the other 1% is precious material.
If selected to participate in the Rejewelry Competition these donated materials will be available to you in order to create a suite of jewelry. The materials include:
Silver, 2 troy ounces (min purchase): priced at 80% of the day's rate at the time of purchase
14k Gold, 2 gram (min purchase): priced at 80% of the day's rate at the time of purchase
NOTE: The majority of RJM donated gold is 14k, but there may be small quantities of 18k that will also be available for purchase and sold according to the above system for pricing.Costume Jewelry: Priced by the pound, $12 per pound.
Gemstones will be divided by weight or individually sold. Priced per lot.
Meet our Rejewerly Coordinator
Sarah “Spee” Parker
Sarah “Spee” Parker is a Richmond-based sculptor and jeweler. She received her MFA from the Department of Craft/Material Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University and her BFA at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Sarah’s sculptures, installations and jewelry focus heavily on americana, punk, DIY, anti-containment, and questioning authorship through the lens of craft. Spee is part of the Radical Jewelry Makeover Artist Project. She was a 2022 Post-Master’s Teaching Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a recipient of the Baltimore Jewelry Center Emerging Artist Residency. She has exhibited regionally and has been a member to several DIY exhibition spaces in both Boone, North Carolina as well as Richmond, VA.
Spee is also a participant in the RJM Artist Project.
